The historian Carlos Huaraj Acuña, from the National University of San Marcos, showed an official map of the Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute of Colombia that places the district of Santa Rosa, in the province Mariscal Ramón Castilla, Loreto region, within the Peruvian territory. The image dates from 2017 and appears in the official database of the Colombian agency.
“The image of the map corresponds to the Cartographic Institute of Colombia. As you see, this is from 2017. Look, in your own search engine, one place there Santa Rosa and says there Castilla, Loreto, Peru”, He pointed to RPP.
This contradicts the recent statements of the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, who said that said district “has not been assigned” or Peru or Colombia.

Huaraj recalled that the boundaries between the two countries were established by the Solomon-Lozano Treaty of 1922 and the Rio de Janeiro protocol of 1934, both ratified by the congresses of Peru and Colombia. He pointed out that these agreements sealed the recognition of current borders.
In addition, he stressed that the bilateral relationship between Peru and Colombia has been historically stable, except for specific conflicts. He stressed that, if there were any territorial doubt, there would be no current treaties or official recognition such as that of the Colombian Cartographic Institute.
