Colombian capitals promote sustainable projects with support from Asocapitales

More than 30 cities present sustainable projects with the support of Asocapitales to transform infrastructure and quality of life.

With the participation of more than 30 secretaries of Planning, Habitat, Environment, Finance and Economic Development from different regions, the October Urban Capital Meeting was held in Bogotá, organized by Asocapitales. During the event, 28 sustainable and innovative projects were presented that seek to transform the infrastructure and urban development of the country’s capital cities.

The initiatives represent a joint investment of more than $1.38 billion pesos and will benefit more than 6.5 million inhabitants. The projects address topics such as electric mobility, decent housing, urban regeneration, cultural infrastructure and energy transition, in order to modernize cities and improve the quality of life of their inhabitants.

According to Asocapitales, lThe projects were formulated by the mayors of the capital cities with technical support from the entitywith the aim of attracting resources from multilateral banking and international cooperation. The investments are grouped into three main axes: electric mobility and regional connectivity, urban regeneration and sustainable housing, and tourism and cultural infrastructure.

The projects include initiatives such as the implementation of clean transportation fleets, the creation of cycle routes and green corridors, the revitalization of urban centers and the promotion of cultural spaces. Each of these proposals was structured under criteria of sustainability, innovation and equity, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda and the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan 2026–2030.

The purpose is to contribute to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in terms of sustainable cities (SDG 11), climate action (SDG 13), infrastructure and innovation (SDG 9) and international alliances (SDG 17). Together, the proposals aim to consolidate a more humane, resilient and competitive city model.

According to figures from Asocapitales, The 32 capital cities of the country, together with Uribia as a special guest, concentrate 47% of the Colombian population and generate 55% of the national Gross Domestic Product. These figures, according to the association, reflect the importance of strengthening investments in urban centers, which concentrate much of the talent, innovation and national productivity.

The initiatives will allow the estimated generation of more than 40,000 direct and indirect jobs, in addition to contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and the expansion of urban services infrastructure in vulnerable sectors. Asocapitales highlighted that capitals function as laboratories of sustainability and transformation, where investments generate regional impact and new opportunities for millions of Colombians.
