Colombia, with the most critical increase in the unemployment rate in the OECD

Unemployment rate in August, the best month in the last two years

Unemployment rose four tenths in September in Colombia to 11.3% of the active population, which means the largest increase that month of all OECD countrieswhere as a whole the unemployment rate remained stable at 4.9%, very close to the historical minimum.

According to data published this Thursday by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Colombia was in September the third country with the highest percentage of unemployedonly surpassed by Spain (12.7%, unchanged compared to August) and by Greece (11.8%, three tenths less).

The rate of 4.9% for the organization as a whole isjust one tenth above the minimum recorded in Julythe lowest level since the beginning of the historical series in 2001. In the euro zone, unemployment fell one tenth to 6.6% in September, two tenths in the United States to 3.5% and also two tenths in Mexico at 3.1%.

(Also: The majority of the employed population in Colombia has only a high school diploma).

In absolute figures, the countries with the highest number of unemployed were the United States (5.75 million), Spain (2.978 million), Colombia (2.844 million), Italy (1.98 million), Mexico (1.845 million) and Japan (1.83 million).
