Colombia will have new air routes to reactivate tourism

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (Mincit) launched announcement looking for the implementation of 10 new air routes in the country.

The objective is that the airlines present the projects to operate the new routes, and to those with the greatest tourist potential we will give them financial support for the promotion. Our goal is to reach 10 new routes and benefit more than 33,000 passengers”said the Vice Minister of Tourism Ricardo Galindo Bueno about this initiative.

From February 10 to February 22 airlines may submit their proposals to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. These must be filed with the Vice Ministry of Tourism.

The winners will be announced in March and in May travelers will be able to enjoy the new air routes, the deputy minister estimated.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Maria Ximena Lombanaassured that this initiative seeks “stimulate tourism in the regions, promote connectivity and advance in the process that we promote to move from safe economic reactivation to consolidated economic growth.”

This is the first time that the Government It goes beyond liberalizing air routes and investing in infrastructure, to implement financial incentive policies that allow stimulating regional aviation.

To the date, the country managed to recover 93.4% of chairs and the 90.6% of air frequencies it had in February 2020. In addition, the year-end season had very good results for all providers.

With this project, the Government seeks to encourage air connectivity by generating more routes, more tourism and benefits for the value chain of the sector that includes transport, hotels and restaurants, among others.
