Aerocivil confirmed the impact caused by the air safety alert issued from the US and the entity confirmed that, although for now each airline has made autonomous determinations, cancellations and rescheduling of flights are recorded.
According to the aeronautical authority, for now, there are around 1,500 affected travelers, mainly in Bogotá, from where the routes that connect with the neighboring country are dispatched.
Faced with route diversions by European and South American airlines that normally fly over Venezuelan airspace, Aerocivil strengthened its surveillance, control and communications capabilities to guarantee the safe provision of air traffic services in Colombian airspace.
According to the Chicago Convention, States must guarantee the protection of civil aviation and cannot compromise the safety of commercial aircraft.
In the midst of the turbulence due to the security alert, Avianca and Latam confirmed the cessation of operations. Iberia, TAP, Turkish, Gol and Caribbean Airlines also did so.
Nine airlines connect Colombia with Venezuela: Avianca, Latam, Copa, Wingo, Satena, Laser, Avior, Rutaca and Estelar. The volume of passengers is distributed among them.
The Venezuelan Airlines Association said that Venezuelan companies (Laser, Avior, Rutaca and Estelar) will continue flying without incident.
