Colombia, the country that grew the most in the OECD

Colombian economy grew by 10.6% during 2021

The gross domestic product of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) grew to 5.5% in 2021, according to the organization’s annual report released Monday.

(The GDP of the world’s major economies grew by 5.5% in 2021.)

According to the report, this growth comes after a 4.6% drop in 2020 and a 1.7% growth in 2019, the pre-pandemic year. With this, the registration of the organization exceeds the levels of two years ago.

Regarding the G7 countries, the OECD report highlights that the United Kingdom suffered the worst fall in 2020 (-9.4%), but a year ago it had the highest growth of 7.5%. France, for its part, rebounded in 2021 at a rate of 7%, after a drop of 7.9%; while Italy expanded its GDP by 6.4% after contracting 8.4% due to the pandemic.

Thus, in the absence of some official data, Colombia was the country of the organization that grew the most in 2021 with a rebound of 10.2% of GDP last year.

In fact, the organization highlighted that the country was, along with Israel, one of the bloc’s economies that grew the most in the fourth quarter of the previous year (4.3% and 3.9%, respectively).

(This is how the Colombian economy grew compared to other countries).

It is followed by Hungary (2.1%), Spain (2.0%), Poland (1.7%), Portugal (1.6%) and Sweden (1.4%).
In fact, according to the report, the bloc’s gross domestic product in the fourth quarter was 1.2%, exceeding by 0.1 percentage points the record for the third part of the previous year of 1.1%.

Among the G7 countries, Canada and the United States had the highest percentages of 1.6% and 1.7%, respectively.

THE COUNTRY WITH THE MOST HOLIDAYS

Likewise, Colombia is the country of this organization with more holidays but with fewer vacation days.

In total, in Colombia there are 18 national holidays which, together with the average vacation time of a worker, which is 15 days, comes to a total of 33 rest days.

The second country with the most holidays in the OECD is Japan, where 16 days a year are registered. Followed by Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia that register 15 holidays.

(Colombia, one of the OECD countries with fewer vacation days).

Now, although Colombia has more holidays, it does not lead the ‘top’ of the countries with more days off for workers, according to the OECD. In this sense, it is the eighth country with fewer legal holidays in the year.

The countries with the most vacation time in the year are Austria, France, Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark, which have 25 days. The country ranks 13th among member countries with just over a month without having to work.

Although Colombia ranks first in the list of OECD membersat a regional level, it is the second country with the most holidays behind Argentina, which has 19 holidays.
