The man who was transporting the gold arrived in Bogotá from Inírida, the capital of the jungle department of Guainía, on the border with Venezuela.
Through the investigations, it was possible to determine that the mineral had been illegally extracted in the department of Guainía and “belonged to the Acacio Medina Front of the FARC dissidents and that it was going to be sold illegally.”
The FARC dissidents are, according to the authorities, the main responsible for the damage caused to the environment in this part of the country because they are part of networks that illegally exploit gold for which they use chemicals that contaminate the water and soil.
The captured man and the 6.7 kilos of gold were made available to the Prosecutor’s Office.
