The president of the Republic, Ivan Duke, presented at the New York Stock Exchange, the Green Taxonomy published by the country, a strategy to guarantee sustainable financing that is based on a classification system for economic activities and assets with significant contributions to the achievement of environmental goals.

Duque stressed that with this guide it is expected “to continue facilitating the channeling of said resources for the fulfillment of those goals” and expressed the importance of this document, “that will provide clarity so that those who invest in green projects and initiatives know if said investment is classified as green in Colombia”.
The Minister of Finance and Public Credit, J.Osé Manuel Restrepo, expressed that “Colombia continues to position itself as a leader in terms of financing mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change: we published the first version of the Green Taxonomy to allocate resources to projects, activities, initiatives and assets that contribute to meeting our environmental objectives and joins other initiatives such as green bonds, a market that will be given greater dynamism, as well as financial protection strategies against disaster risk”.

The Government stressed that this Taxonomy turns the country into regional leader in this matter, defining a classification system for economic activities and assets with significant contributions to the achievement of environmental objectives.
With the launch before international investors, it seeks attract and mobilize more resources, both public and private, to green projects and investments, since this Taxonomy is in line with the commitments, strategies and policies outlined by Colombia in environmental matters. It also seeks to guarantee compliance with high standards of international environmental sustainability and increase transparency in these investments.
For the development of the Taxonomy, the environmental priorities of the country, aligned with the commitments, strategies and policies outlined by Colombia in this field. The environmental objectives identified are: climate change mitigation, adaptation to climate change, conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity, water management, land management, circular economy, pollution prevention and control.
