Colombia prepares for the UN Executive Council Tourism

Colombia is finalizing the last details for the 122nd edition of the UN Tourism Executive Board, the world’s leading tourism event, which will take place from November 13 to 15 in the Heroica, and which will be attended by 34 delegations from the same number of countries.

To review the progress, the Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo, met with representatives of the Cartagena Tourism Secretariat, the Heroica Group and the Cartagena de Indias Tourism Corporation to discuss the four events that will be held simultaneously: the meeting with members affiliated with UN Tourism, the final of the Community Tourism Challenge, the Best Tourism Village gala and the Investment Forum.

The agenda began with a meeting with the Cartagena Tourism Secretariat and Corporturismo to analyze the terms of the agreement that will be signed between the Nation and the city, so that Cartagena shines as the venue for the event.

Then there was an inspection tour of the Cartagena de Indias Convention Center to verify that it meets the logistical and service requirements necessary to host the Executive Council.

Finally, a meeting was held with the hotel sector and local operators to discuss the challenges, as a host city, of receive 900 diplomatic visitors.

“Cartagena has all the infrastructure, human quality and willingness to offer the best UN Tourism meeting in history. This event will represent a great economic impact for the city and a new opportunity for the world to know that Colombia, the country of beauty, has all the capabilities to host this type of meeting,” said Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo.

Why is the UN Tourism Executive Council important?

The Executive Council is the highest governing body of the World Tourism Organization and is made up of 34 countries.

At its regular meetings (at least twice a year), new proposals are discussed to defend the value of tourism as a driver of socio-economic growth and development, and its inclusion in national and international policies.

Besides, Prioritise the exchange of knowledge to improve tourism competitiveness of the Member States, sustainable development and the promotion of training in this sector of the economy.
