Foreigners residing in Spain represent 42% of domestic employees; 37.4% of agricultural workers and occupy 20.9% of restaurant positionsand Colombia is the country of origin of the majority of workers from abroad.
The data from the National Employment Institute (INE) released this Thursday placed the foreign population, as of January 2023, at 8,204,206 inhabitantsof which 1,177,317 arrived in 2022, 55.8% more than the previous year.

The largest migratory flow, 15%, arrived in Spain from Colombia, origin of 176,965 migrants; followed by Morocco, with 9.8% of the total, and Venezuela.
The country of origin that experienced the greatest increase was Ukrainedue to the war with Russia, while, on the contrary, those born in Ecuador (5.6%), Bolivia (5.9%) and United Kingdom (6.8%) recorded the lowest percentages of arrivals in 2022.

The most common occupations among those born outside of Spain were domestic work (42%); the agricultural, forestry and fishing work (37.4%); and the restoration jobs (20.9%).
In none of the occupations, the foreign population exceeds the Spanish populationwhich is especially predominant in education (97.8%); healthcare and administrative jobs (96.4%), and care jobs (95.6%).

Women represented 95.7% of domestic employees82.7% of caregivers in health services and 78.3% of cleaning staff.
On the contrary, 94.8% of construction workers, 92.7% of transport vehicle drivers, and 71.8% of agricultural, forestry and fishing laborers are men.
