One of the most important edges of the initiative is to reduce the xenophobia that has increased in recent years against Venezuelan migrants, so they will address specific regions to try to improve social cohesion.
The Colombian government launched the Integra project, created by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which consists of serving the migrant population of Venezuela.
The funds are aimed at the care of those migrants, among the 6 million Venezuelans who have left their country, who have difficulties establishing themselves in another territory. For this, they have a fund of $40 million.
The launch of this initiative in Colombia took place this Tuesday, April 19, in an act headed by the Colombian president, Iván Duque.
In the Casa de Nariño, Duque was accompanied by the United States Ambassador to Colombia, Philip Goldberg; the Director of Migration Colombia, Juan Francisco Espinosa; the Border Manager, Lucas Gómez, and the Director of USAID in Colombia, Larry Sacks, among other officials from both governments.
Integra will be applied in Colombia with the intention of developing a more effective and efficient policy to receive and care for the migrant population, with the premise of achieving “sustainable integration” and producing better opportunities for those who enter Colombia.
“The project seeks sustainable integration and is reflected in opportunities for the migrant and returnee population from Venezuela, and guarantee of their rights and benefits for all migrants, host communities and the country in general,” explained Duque.
The first stage of this project will consist of actions to improve migration management in nine departments of the country: Riohacha (La Guajira), Santa Marta (Magdalena); Cartagena (Bolivar); Barranquilla and Soledad (Atlantic); Cúcuta, Villa del Rosario and Los Patios (North of Santander); Bucaramanga, Santander); Medellín, Itagüí, Envigado and Bello (Antioquia); Cali (Valle del Cauca), and Bogotá and Soacha (Cundinamarca), reviewed the Communication Center of the interim

According to data from Migración Colombia, almost 2 million Venezuelans currently reside in the New Granada nation after escaping from Venezuela in an attempt to seek better opportunities, given the economic and humanitarian crisis in their country of origin.
Despite the launch, Duque emphasized that the initiative does not address the root of the problem, which in his opinion is the permanence of Nicolás Maduro and Chavismo in power.
“Colombia has taken substantial steps in immigration policy, but Latin America cannot give up going to the root of the problem. That has to be the end of the dictatorship and oppression in Venezuela », she stressed.
