Luis Eduardo Llinás, who is in charge of the Financial Information and Analysis Unit (UIAF)confirmed that the entity was suspended from the so-called Egmont Groupwhich brings together the world’s financial intelligence offices, according to the EL TIEMPO Investigative Unit.
He assured that the veto It is related to the reading of the letter sent to him by his Israeli counterpart (Impa) regarding the acquisition of the Pegasus software and that was revealed by the President Gustavo Petroduring a presidential address.

According to what Llinás told the radio station ‘W Radio’, He himself received the letter from Impa regarding the transaction between a Colombian entity and the firm NSO Group, creator of Pegasuslast August 27th.
“I informed the president when I was in Switzerland, but I want to make it clear that the report was sent by Israel. In an inaccurate statement by the president, he mentioned Switzerland, but they have nothing to do with it.“, Llinás said.

In addition, the official said that acted in accordance with national law and have not violated any statute of the Egmont Group.
“We were informed that the letter could not be shared without prior authorization. We requested the permits on August 27 and were asked who the information would be shared with and were told that it could only be shared with the Prosecutor’s Office.“, Llinás said.
He also indicated that This message was conveyed to the head of state and, after a discussion with the president’s advisors, the latter made the decision to declassify the document.
The future Egmont meeting
Llinás also gave details of the suspension: “Egmont Group transmits information, it is a secure channel (…) they have told us that they are going to suspend the secure channel of Colombia, that is, not only can we receive information but we cannot deliver it either.“.

The official also explained that next week, Egmont will hear UIAF Colombia’s explanation to determine whether or not a group rule regarding the confidentiality of information was violated.
“They will meet next week to evaluate whether the suspension will be stopped or if there will be a sanction.“, explained Llinás, who added that UIAF Colombia is a reference in Latin America in the management of information and financial analysis.
