Colombia guarantees the DR “unrestricted” support against drug trafficking

The president of Colombia, Ivan Dukeguaranteed this Friday its “total” and “unrestricted” support for the Government of the Dominican Republic in its fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.

“Our commitment to support your security strategy is total”Duque told his Dominican counterpart, Luis Abinader, at a press conference after a private meeting between the two and the signing of several agreements between their governments.

Duque, who is making a one-day official visit to the country, highlighted Abinader’s “frontal commitment” against drug trafficking and organized crime “with results that speak for themselves,” he said.

“Count on you, Mr. President, that you will have the unrestricted support of Colombia so that your commitment against all criminal structures allows you to continue reaping success”.

Dominican authorities have seized 6.4 tons of cocaine in April, which exceeds the total cocaine seized in the first quarter, which amounts to 5.9 tons, according to consolidated figures.

Abinader said today that the increase in these seizures is due to the “special” and “efficient” collaboration of Colombia, while underscoring “the excellent” relations between the two countries.

Duque’s agenda in the country also includes an intervention in the plenary session of the Congress of the Dominican Republic, a meeting with the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies and an interview with former Dominican President Hipólito Mejía.

In addition, he will lay a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland and will attend an act of recognition of the Venezuelan community residing in the Dominican Republic.
