The General Director of Migration Colombia, Juan Francisco Espinosa Palacios, announces that as of May 1, the measure of beak and identity card for foreign citizens that had been applied on the border between Colombia and Venezuela is without effect.

This Wednesday, during a live broadcast by the head of Migration Colombia on Facebook, the Migration Colombia Twitter account @MigracionCol quoted Espinoza’s statements about the elimination of this measure:

“Given the progress that has been made in the management of the pandemic by the National Government and with the intention of contributing to the process of economic reactivation, we have decided to lift the peak and plate measure for entry through the border with Venezuela” .

A press release from Migración Colombia details that the decision was made by the head of the Colombian immigration authority, after a tour of the different immigration control posts in Norte de Santander and after an analysis with his work team of the behavior of transit migration in this border area.

The measure that had been implemented on June 2, 2021, within the framework of the health emergency due to COVID-19, “seeked that the entry of foreign citizens into the national territory be done within a framework of control and health security,” he points out. the press release.

Likewise, it indicates that this provision to eliminate the beak and ID is in accordance with the announcement made by the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, to repeal the requirement of the vaccination card and the use of the mask in the national territory.

Daily, according to the data provided by the Eastern Regional Migration Colombia, there are about 30,000 people who move back and forth between Colombia and Venezuela.

The executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced on October 4 the commercial opening in the border area with Colombia located in the state of Táchira.

“Historically, the commercial exchange between Colombia and Venezuela has even exceeded 7,000 million dollars,” Rodríguez said on that occasion.

The entry of Venezuelans through the Colombian border is carried out guided by the terminal of the identity card. Foreigners with identification cards that end in even numbers are entitled to the even days and those whose identity document ends in an odd number are entitled to the odd days, but this will be without effect from this Sunday, May 1.
