Colombia denounced cyberattacks that affect flights with Venezuela

Colombia denounced that cyberattacks and sabotage are being carried out on flights heading to Caracas, this after the United States Government (US) announced the intention to block Venezuelan airspace.

For this reason, the New Granada Ministry of Transportation indicated that this situation represents regional tension and threatens the stability of air navigation.

Due to cyberattacks, many airlines have been forced to temporarily suspend their flights to Venezuela, as detailed by the Minister of Transportation of Colombia, María Fernanda Rojas.

“Deceptive signals are being emitted, cyber attacks, interference that seeks to alter positioning equipment, GPS. This already exceeds any limit,” denounced Rojas, who also stressed the risks that this situation represents.

Additionally, the minister stated that the threat that Venezuela is experiencing today could confront Colombia tomorrow.

“Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of others. If tomorrow is Colombia, what would we expect from the international community?” he stressed.

Colombia ratifies its position of continuing connected with Venezuela

Faced with this situation, Colombia ratifies its position of continuing to be connected with Venezuela, therefore, the Civil Aeronautics (AeroCivil) of the neighboring country reported that dialogues are being opened with Venezuelan companies to comply with flight schedules.

This was reported by Luis Fernando Martínez, director of AeroCivil, who explained that he met with the Foreign Ministry and the affected Colombian airlines (Wingo and Satena), with a view to a prompt solution to this problem.

“We ask for passenger statistics to organize transportation with other companies. There is complete scope to cover demand,” he indicated.

Among the list of Venezuelan airlines willing to operate on the Caracas – Bogotá route are: Láser Airlines, Aviar Airlines and Turpial Airlines.

Venezuelan airspace is not closed

Although many right-wing media have wanted to show that Venezuela does not have autonomy in its airspace and that it is blocked, Martínez asserted that this statement is false and that flying to Caracas does not represent any risk.

These words confirm what was said by the Venezuelan authorities, who have demonstrated that the airspace is not closed and that national and international flights are operational.

The best demonstration is that in the last three days, three flights from the US have entered Venezuela, with repatriated compatriots.
