Colombia denies Guaidó: he was not invited to the International Conference

The opposition leader Juan Guaidó was not invited to the International Conference on the political process in Venezuela, which will begin on Tuesday, April 25, in Colombia.

This was announced by the Foreign Ministry of the New Granada nation through his account on the Twitter social network, through which he stated that the Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán has not invited Juan Guaidó, and emphasized that only invited countries will participate in the dialogue.

“The Foreign Ministry reports that only the countries invited to this dialogue will participate in the International Conference on the political process in Venezuela on April 25. Foreign Minister @AlvaroLeyva has not invited Mr. Juan Guaidó to this space,” reads the official post.

This statement was also shared by the Minister for Communication and Information of Venezuela, Freddy Ñáñez, who assured that the “Colombian Government denies Guaidó.”

The entity’s clarification responds to a statement issued by Guaidó on the social network Twitter in the morning hours of this Monday, in which he mentioned that he crossed the border between the two countries to attend the summit called by the president of Colombia Gustavo Petro .

Guaidó enters “inappropriately”

Later, in statements to the Colombian media, Foreign Minister Leyva warned that Guaidó “runs risks” due to his “inappropriate” entry into the New Granada nation, for which he could be deported.

“Obviously it is not that he wants to participate, he is not invited. Out there it came out that I had invited him, I don’t know Guaidó. I have not had contact with him and, naturally, if he does not appear, he runs risks, because he entered inappropriately and in Colombia we abide by the law. He could be deported, ”suggested Foreign Minister Leyva.

With this international conference, Petro wants the government of President Maduro and the opposition to return to negotiations in Mexico. In this sense, the opposition Unitary Democratic Platform of Venezuela is also expected to attend, a coalition that is mainly represented by Gerardo Blyde, in the company of Claudia Nikken, Tomás Guanipa, Stalin González, Luis Aquiles Moreno, Luis Emilio Rondón, Alejandro Mora and Roberto Enriquez.

All of them have attended the dialogue tables with the Maduro government delegation in the Aztec nation.

These are those invited to participate this April 25 at the San Carlos Palace, headquarters of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Germany, Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Spain, the United States, France, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, Turkey; as well as the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union.
