Colombia reached a historical record with 835 tons of drugs seized in 2025, an increase of 7% compared to the previous year.
The fight against drugs and drug trafficking remains one of the main objectives of the Ministry of Defense and the Military Forceswhich is why, for several months, they intensified operations to affect these illegal networks and remove these substances from the market.
This is how Colombia reached a new record number in seizures, with more than 835 tons of drugs that have been seized so far this year.

The exit of this drug from the market represents a hard blow for illegal groups outside the law such as the FARC dissidents, the ELN, the Gulf Clan and organized crime gangs who depend on drug trafficking to financially support their illegal income.

As a strategic component and in order to achieve these historic figures for the country, the Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, CONATreported operational advances that strengthen the national offensive in the most complex regions regarding the issue of drug trafficking and the illegal dispute of strategic corridors.
Consequently, The Ministry of Defense presented a comprehensive assessment of the national offensive against drug traffickingwarning that criminal organizations “have a very high recovery capacity and it is a product of drug trafficking.”
Thus things, the Minister Pedro Sánchez confirmed that Colombia reached 835 tons of drugs seized, which represents 7% more than the previous yearand projected that the country will exceed 900 tons before the end of the year.

“To this balance is added the accumulation of the current Government, with more than 2,700 tons of cocaine seized, equivalent to approximately 30,000 million doses that will not reach the streets of consuming countries”said the head of the Defense portfolio.
LA FM learned that the offensive also includes the destruction of 5,467 laboratories so far this yearwhich means that the Military Forces destroy a laboratory every 40 minutes, a increase of 23% compared to 2024.
Minister Sánchez stressed that the global dimension of the problem imposes structural challenges, since “as long as there is demand (the 316 million consumers), it is practically impossible to cancel production.”
What does CONAT do?
The Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, CONAT, is a unit of the National Army that was created in 2021 and constitutes one of the operational pillars that complement the fight against illicit economies in the prioritized regions.

According to him Brigadier General Gerardo Ortiz Ramírez, commander of the Command against Drug Trafficking and Transnational ThreatsDuring 2025, notable results regarding seizures have been achieved:
- 90,000 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
- 97,000 kilograms of marijuana.
- 14,000 kilograms of coca base paste.
- 2,200 laboratories disabled.
- 52,000 kilograms of liquid cocaine hydrochloride, equivalent to 40,000 kilograms of solid hydrochloride.
“These operations are concentrated in critical departments such as Norte de Santander, Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo. Compared to the year 2024, the effort and results were increased by 135%,” said General Ortiz Ramírez.
In addition, he explained that CONAT is made up of three Brigades against Drug Trafficking, a Deployment Force against Transnational Threats and a Brigade against the Illicit Exploitation of Mining Deposits, which allows simultaneous operations to be carried out against multiple links in drug trafficking.
