The Colombian soccer team beat its Mexican team 4-0 on Saturday in a preparation match for the 2026 World Cup in which James Rodríguez stood out, who participated in three goals.

Colombia, which qualified for the World Cup as third place in the South American qualifying round, below Argentina and Ecuador, defeated Mexico with goals from Jhon Lucumí, Luis Fernando Díaz, Jefferson Lerma and Johan Carbonero.

In the match played at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Colombia gave the first warning at 10 minutes with a shot by James Rodríguez that came out very close to the right corner.

Mexico responded three minutes later with a powerful left foot shot from Santiago Jiménez, who sent the ball around the right post.

Colombia took the lead in the 16th minute when Lucumí finished off a cross sent by James Rodríguez from the right sector in the small area after receiving a foul.

Mexico was close to tying in the 47th minute, but goalkeeper David Ospina prevented it by diving to stop a dangerous shot by Orbelín Pineda.

Díaz increased the advantage for Colombia in the 52nd minute when he defined by raising the ball before the exit of goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón after controlling a pass from James Rodríguez.

Colombia’s third goal was scored by Jefferson Lerma in the 64th minute with a powerful volley after Luis Romo rejected a cross from James Rodríguez.

Carbonero scored the fourth goal in the 87th minute when he put the ball between Malagón’s legs after receiving a long pass from Juan Fernando Quintero.

Mexico was close to scoring a goal in the 90th minute, but Germán Berterame’s shot hit the right post.

Mexico’s next match, which will host the World Cup along with the United States and Canada, will be against Ecuador on October 14, the same day that Colombia will face Canada.
