In a gesture of deep political and diplomatic will, authorities of Colombia and Venezuela starred in a historical encounter in the waters of the Orinoco River, where they signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at consolidating a border of peace and reactivating the binational exchange. This act reaffirms the strength of relations between the two nations and marks a milestone in regional integration.
The meeting was attended by governors Fulberto Guevara (Vichada) and Arnulfo Rivera (Guainía) for Colombia; Miguel Rodríguez (Amazonas) by Venezuela; as well as ambassadors Milton Rengifo (Colombia in Venezuela) and Carlos Eduardo Martínez (Venezuela in Colombia). The presence of these senior representatives evidences the institutional commitment of both governments with the well -being of their border peoples.
Governor Miguel Rodríguez, who announced the information through his social networks, described the encounter as “a decisive step towards full restoration of relations between peoples that share this extensive and dynamic border region.” The signed memorandum represents not only a technical agreement, but a symbol of brotherhood between the United Nations for History, Geography and Bolivarian values.
Consulate reopening: first step towards diplomatic normalization
As a priority strategic action, the parties agreed to work immediately in the reopening of consulates in their respective jurisdictions. “This means that very soon we will have working again the consulates of Venezuela in Vichada and Guainía, and those of Colombia in our state of Amazonas,” Rodríguez announced.
This measure will allow to restore formal channels of Consulate, facilitate border traffic, and provide direct support to binational communities, thus strengthening institutional cooperation and social fabric in the region.
A border of peace, integration and development
Local leaders reaffirmed their commitment to exchange, cooperation and mutual well -being, laying the foundations for a new stage of regional integration. The meeting in the Orinoco not only consolidates a border of peace, but projects a shared vision of sustainable development, mutual respect and Latin American unity.
