The governments of Guainía, Vichada (Colombia) and Amazonas seek to develop this border area in areas of health, education, commerce and tourism
A memorandum of understanding signed the governors of Vichada, Fulberto Guevara, and Guainía, Arnulfo Rivera, for Colombia and the governor of Amazonas, Miguel Rodríguez for Venezuela, within the framework of the Orinoco Integration Forum, held in Puerto Carreño, between the Meta and Orinoco rivers on the border between both countries.
“That memorandum of understanding that we sign today is a reflection of the political and technical will that moves us to get our departments, municipalities and border states to have more and better development opportunities and that the growth nourishes our governments from Caracas and Bogotá,” said Governor Guevara.
Governor Rodríguez said that they come true, “the dreams to make our Amazon a thriving region with our brothers of the Vichada and Guainía.” He said they have been preparing this historical meeting for several years.
This first Orinoco Binational Forum for integration, peace and cooperation, motivates a “true integration in a region so extensive that needs us all,” Rodriguez said.
Memorandum is not a treaty or generates international legal obligations. It seeks to coordinate actions in fields, such as health, education, commerce and tourism.
