Colombia and the European Union held this Friday the first high-level dialogue on drugs and national securityafter a series of visits and inspections carried out by a high-level commission of the European bloc in the country between June 14 and 17.
(They sanction a law that prohibits the consumption of drugs and alcohol in parks).
The European delegation was led by Laurent Muschel, Director for Dg Home of the European Commission; Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, Deputy Executive Director for Europol Operations; Sjoerd Top, executive director of the Maoc-N and their respective teams.
This Friday’s dialogue was headed and installed by the Vice President and Chancellor of the Republic Marta Lucía Ramírez, who called for closer collaboration between both parties to fight against this scourge.
“We are committed to maintaining an increasingly close and effective cooperation between Colombia and the European Union in the field of the fight against the world drug problem and for this reason we hope that beyond this dialogue we can also have a permanent conversation mechanism. between some of the entities that are part of this dialogue so that we can move forward with greater agility”, Ramírez said, according to a press release.
The dialogue, according to a statement from the European bloc, covers a broad agenda with issues of common interest such as “the recent developments in anti-drug policy and anti-narcotics dynamics, especially after the covid-19 pandemic, and the close cooperation between Europol and Colombia”among others.
