Santo Domingo.- In order to counter drug trafficking and environmental crimes in the Caribbean Sea between the Dominican Republic and Colombia, the armed forces of both countries agreed to carry out military operations in the area.
Both countries seek to join efforts in bilateral cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, drug crime and crimes in the maritime environment of the Caribbean and the naval borders with Colombia, in addition to strengthening the possibilities of including other countries in the Caribbean area.
The Vice Minister of Defense for Naval and Coastal Affairs, Vice Admiral Joaquín Augusto Peignand Ramírez, on behalf of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, received a courtesy visit from a delegation of Infantry of the Navy of the Republic of Colombia, headed by the commander of the Task Force Against Drug Trafficking in the Caribbean of the South American nation.
The Vice Admiral received in his office the Brigadier General of the Marine Corps, Rafael Olaya Quintero, and the director against drugs of the Colombian Navy, ship captain, Juan Carlos Jiménez Howard, who were at the head of the Colombian delegation.
In addition, the military high commands analyzed the possibility of joining efforts in building confidence and effectiveness in the fight with joint training to unify operational standards in these aspects and to support responses to natural disaster events in the Caribbean area.
