Within the framework of her participation in the fifth version of the Colombia Investment Roadshow Madrid 2022, the Vice President and Chancellor, Martha Lucia Ramirez met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, with the purpose of addressing strategic issues of the bilateral agenda and strengthen economic and trade relations.

In this regard, the vice president and chancellor stressed that the Colombian economy in 2021 grew 10.6% compared to 2020, the highest figure in the country’s history, and that, according to international organizations, Colombia will be one of the economies with the best prospects for economic growth in Latin America in the short and medium term.
During the meeting, the mutual interest in raising the relationship through the activation of the High Level Commission, created by the 1992 Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, with five subcommissions in the political spheres; economic and commercial; scientific and technological; educational and cultural; and legal and consular.

In this sense, Colombia placed special emphasis on the importance of holding the first meeting, which has been proposed for this month of May in Bogotá.
Likewise, the senior officials expressed their satisfaction with the completion of the negotiations and the signing in 2021 of important bilateral instruments such as the Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, the Agreement on Cooperation in the Fight against Crime and Security, and the Agreement on the Protection of Classified Information.
In addition to highlighting the excellent state of bilateral and multilateral relations, the senior official thanked Spain for its constant support to Colombia in the face of the different challenges facing the country, and which has allowed the development of important initiatives and projects, despite the difficult circumstances generated by the pandemic.
In this regard, he highlighted the donation of 6,545,470 doses of vaccines against covid-19, of which 2,606,290 have been received.
The Vice President and Chancellor also thanked the support for the implementation of the Legal Peace Policy, through the United Nations Multi-Donor Fund, the European Fund for Peace, as well as through its Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development. (AECID).
