At least 2,630 Colombians are detained in Chilean prisons.
After a meeting between the Ministers of Justice of Colombia, Ángela María Buitrago and Chile, Jaime Eduardo Gajardo, the officials announced that they will present before The Congress of the Republic the proposal of an extradition agreement with that country.
This agreement aims to strengthen judicial cooperation, since at least 2,630 Colombians are arrested in Chilean prisons.
The treaty responds to the need to establish a mechanism of reciprocity and reinforce the fight against transnational crime. The Minister of Justice, Ángela María Buitrago, explained that Since last year conversations had been held with the Chilean minister about two crucial issues: the possibility of repatriation of some prisoners and the implementation of the principle of reciprocity.

The high number of Colombians arrested in Chilean prisons caught attention to the impact of cross -border crime, which underlines the urgency of Advance judicial collaboration agreements.
