Colombia already has a new ICT Ministry: Sandra Urrutia took office

The lawyer Sandra Milena Urrutia was sworn in by the president Gustavo Petro as the new Minister of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia.

In the middle of the inauguration speech, the president stressed that Urrutia will have a “enormous responsibility”, not only because of the immediate antecedents that punished the Ministry, but because Colombia “not good in connectivity”.

One of the great challenges is connectivity and it is that Colombia is not doing well in terms of connectivity, since it is below the average for Latin America (…) And it is that connectivity could be a security measure, a measure of education and of economic transformation. Having good connectivity in the country could help small businesses, the agribusiness sector, and, of course, help that excluded population”, Petro highlighted in his speech.

Finally, the president recalled that One of the main objectives of the Government will be connectivity and reach the different corners of the national territory with it.

Urrutia took office after a month in which the ICT Ministry had no one to lead it, since Mary Gutierrez, who had been appointed in the beginning, did not assume the position due to problems related to conflicts of interest.

Who is the new MinTIC

Sandra Milena Urrutia Pérez has worked in the Comptroller General of the Nation, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce and in private companies such as Movistar.

She is a lawyer from the University of Boyacá, with a master’s degree in administrative law from the university extership of Colombia and is a specialist in telecommunications law at the Universidad del Rosario.

He has also worked in the field of home public services, surveillance and control and regulation and customer service, for which he has more than 18 years of experience in the sector.

His arrival at the ministry is not entirely surprising since his name was present within the options presented by the Partido de La U, due to the fact that his experience within the Vice Ministry of Technologies, the National Television Agency (ANTV) and the Superintendence stand out. of Public Services.
