The Contemporary Art Center Wifredo Lam is going to hold a colloquium on December 8 as a tribute to the 120th anniversary of the birth of that essential Cuban painter, and to the 80th anniversary of The jungle, one of his most emblematic works.
A statement reviewed by the Prensa Latina (PL) agency highlights that the center will publish from its official website passages from the life and work of the artist, who worked African culture in Cuban plastic arts.
The colloquium “Lam’s perspective” intends for Cuban and foreign intellectuals to address the legacy of what many consider the most universal of Cuban painters.
The event, coordinated by the researcher José Noceda, a specialist in Lam’s work, will feature interventions by renowned visual artists such as Manuel López Oliva and Lesbia Vent Dumois, as well as the presentation of articles, reviews, exhibition chronicles, interviews and essays. written by different authors about the work of the great artist.
Lam developed a multifaceted career in the visual arts, moving easily between illustration, architectural drawing, sculpture, mural, painting, printmaking and ceramics, the outlet adds.
