The Dominican College of Dentists (COD), together with the Society of Implantology and the Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, denounced bad practices in carrying out what he called “journeys killers of implants” from foreign personnel without exequatur to operate legally in the country and with the use of implants imported without any sanitary registration.
The president of CODVirginia Laureano, said that these journeys they are sometimes advertised “under the veil of foundations” and are courses sold to foreigners for up to 20 thousand euros, “leaving local patients with no way to rehabilitate the prostheses, since the necessary accessories are not found.”
According to the doctor, these courses for foreigners are so well structured that IP addresses from the Dominican Republic are blocked, so when you do an internet search, you can’t see ads locally. journeys aimed at Americans and Europeans and that until 2023 they would already have the quotas sold.
“This practice that violates all laws has been responsibly denounced by the COD and we find ourselves with a Ministry of Health that has turned a blind eye to the situation”said Laureano when announcing the withdrawal of the College that he chairs from the dialogue table.
Laureano affirms that the Vice Ministry of Quality Assurance has wanted to urgently approve the protocols to carry out these journeys in centers without authorization; whereas, if at dentists they lack some requirement, they give them a period of five days before closing them.
The doctor recalled that Law 63-18 requires that to practice dentistry in the country, professionals must be registered.
Aclara support university clinics
When questioned about the execution of dental work by university students, Dr. Laureano indicated that they have no objection “because these students are accompanied at all times by trained teaching staff who supervise each of their actions.”
He even highlighted that there were part of those teachers who are part of the COD.
Laureano reiterated that the fight is against “those foreigners who come without qualification or are registered.”
