The one sol coin is part of our history and we use it daily to carry out our most daily actions. Over time, collections with an important meaning for the Peruvian identity have been incorporated. Thus, in this note we tell you about those issued to date.
The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) for more than a decade has already presented collections of the one sol coin.
On March 9, it put into circulation a new commemorative silver coin for its 100 years of foundation.

However, there are groups that have been divided into different series that seek to highlight icons of history, natural resources, fauna and cultural riches.
For José Luis Pereyra, head of the BCR Currency Analysis department, the numismatic series were born on the basis of the concept that banknotes and coins are not only a means of payment but also a vehicle for transmitting culture.

How many collectible coins are there in Peru?
Collectible coins in the history of Peru are several decades old. However, the Peruvian sol presented its first collection series in 2010.
Currently there are more than 45 collectible coins, among them the series are:
- Numismatic Series Wealth and Pride of Peru: 26 coins
- Natural Resources Series: 3 coins
- Series Threatened Wild Fauna of Peru: 10 coins
- Constructors of the Bicentennial Republic Series 1821-2021: 3 coins and 6 more that will be released progressively.
- Women in the Independence Process Series: 3 coins
According to the BCR official, the coins that have been removed the most so far have been from the Wealth and Pride of Peru series.
“It ended up issuing all 26 designs over the course of seven years, a total of approximately 280 million coins.”, he specified.

The distribution of these three coins began in 2013. The purpose is to highlight the natural wealth of the country. This series includes the main products that Peru exports to the world.

What new coins will be added to the collection?
According to the BCR official, this year they will release more collectible coins that show the faces of characters from our history.
“This year we will continue to issue the coins of the Constructores de la República series, since three of a total of nine approved by the BCR have been released to date.”, said Jose Luis Pereyra.
