At the end of July, the fiscal deficit was 686,899 million pesos, a decrease of 36.3% compared to the same period of last year, and that is due to a budget cut for 300,729 million, and surpluses for non -oil revenues for 122,568 million driven, mainly, for greater efficiency for tax collection, said the newly published report of the Finance and Public Debt report.
This deficit reduction policy will remain until the end of the year and will be visible in the proposal of the economic package by 2026, which occurs on September 8, considered Christopher Cernichiaro, professor and researcher at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) Xochimilco,
The objective, according to the Ministry of Finance, is to reduce the deficit of 5.7% of GDP, reported in 2024, to 4.0% of GDP, by 2026.
The agency has resorted to extraordinary savings and the greatest adjustments, until the seventh month of the year, concentrated on programmable spending.
The programmable spending is used to deliver goods and services to the population, finance social programs, in addition to allowing the operation of institutions, dependencies and entities of the public sector, according to information from BBVA Mexico.
As part of this policy, until June lower expendations for social programs have been reported as the pension for the well -being of older adults; for people with disabilities; Sowing life and school is ours, in addition to Reductions to Pemex and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) for infrastructure development.
“With this type of actions the population has less access, and in worse conditions, to public services and works, as they are expenses that can be adjusted more easily, compared to others that are mandatory such as the cost of public debt or resources that are sent to the States,” said Cernichiaro.

Another policy that predominates and will continue is to increase and make tax collection more efficient.
In the absence of a fiscal reform, the Government is committed to greater control of taxpayers, through the digitalization of processes to make information crosses more efficient and detect discrepancies between income and expenses, explained Luis Pérez de Acha, founding partner and director of the office Pérez de Acha and Ibarra de Rueda.
The Government also aims to close the cracks for which public resources are sorry, tax fraud, and a greater collection for tariffs that apply to the countries with which there is no commercial agreement.
