A collapse which hit a group of houses this Sunday morning (19) in the community of Jatobá, in the neighborhood of Ouro Preto, in Olinda (PE), left dead and injuredaccording to the Social Defense Secretariat (SDS) of the state of Pernambuco.
In a press interview, the executive secretary of Civil Defense, Carlos D’Albuquerque, said that two people diedone local and one in the hospital. According to him, the housing complex that collapsed had 12 residents. The injured were taken to the hospital.
Rescue teams with sniffer dogs continue to search for survivors.
It is not yet known what the cause of the collapse was, which affected at least eight houses in the area. A team from the Criminalistics Institute carries out the investigation related to the fatal victim.
After the search has concluded and the properties have been released by the State and Municipal Civil Defenses, the examination of the structure that collapsed will begin. The Civil Police of Pernambuco will be responsible for investigating the case.
“From here in China, I remain in contact with the acting governor Priscila Krause, who has already spoken with Mayor Mirella Almeida and reaffirmed the work of the Government of Pernambuco at this difficult time. May God comfort the hearts of the families and friends of the victims”, said the governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra, on social media.
According to the secretariat, the incident is being attended to by 33 firefighters and nine vehicles.
Agents from Civil Defense, Social Assistance, Urban Control, and Security and Urban Management from Olinda City Hall also participate in the operation. SAMU and the electricity concessionaire, Neoenergia, were also contacted.
