MIAMI, United States. – Two people were rescued alive and two others remain trapped after the collapse of a partition in the chimney area of the “Antonio Guiteras” Thermoelectric Power Plant, in Matanzas, reported the local channel TV Yumurí.
The journalist José Miguel Solís, correspondent for Radio Rebelde in Matanzas, specified on Facebook that the first of those rescued had a fractured left leg and had been transferred to the “Faustino Pérez” Provincial Hospital.
Meanwhile, the director of the institution, Dr. Taymí Martínez Naranjo, told TV Yumurí that the patient also had a “mild head trauma.”
The workers were working in the lower part of the chimney in the area known as the “ashtray”, from where they extracted soot and carried out other cleaning tasks, when the partition, a wall seven meters high, collapsed.
Both the two people rescued and the two who are still trapped belong to the Company Specialized in Repair and Maintenance of Chimneys and Work at Height, of the Ministry of Construction.
According to the official media cubadebateat the scene of the accident are the emergency service, the Fire Department and the authorities of the regime in the province, including the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Matanzas, Susely Morfa González.
