Collado announces reinforcement of security in tourist poles

Santo Domingo. -The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, assured that despite the snow storms that have been affecting several US cities and in Canada, the Dominican Republic will exceed the barrier of 7 million in tourist arrivals this year, the highest number of visitors that the country will have received.

He revealed that despite the weather situation in the United States, the main source market for tourists to the country, “only yesterday (Wednesday) 30,000 foreign visitors arrived.”

Minister Collado referred to the issue of the arrival of visitors after holding a meeting in his office with representatives of the Tourism Cabinet on security matters.

He stated that as a result of the evaluation at the meeting, so far, no unfortunate event has occurred with tourists in different destinations, nor hotels, nor in airports.

He cited as a positive balance the fact that reservations are at the top in all hotels in the country, as are the airlines, so “we are doing well.”

Collado specified that President Luis Abinader requested that the Tourism Cabinet meet on security matters to reinforce preventive measures in tourist poles due to the increase in year-end festivities.

This meeting of the tourist security organizations with Minister Collado was attended by the directors of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, of the Specialized Airport Security Corps, pilot colonel Floreal Suárez Martínez; of the Tourist Police (POLITUR), General Minoru Matsunaga.

Also present were Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, president of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, director of DIGESETT.
