This Wednesday, the Cuban Government received a group of collaborators who were injured during the United States attacks on Venezuela on January 3rd.

The note highlights that those who arrived “were conveyed the recognition of the people and the leadership of the Revolution for their courage in the face of imperialist actions” and that their return “represents the unity” between Cuba and Venezuela, despite the prevailing uncertainty as a result of the attack and the current pressures from Washington.

Rise of the fallen

Another official note reported that the Cubans who died during the events of January 3 will be promoted to military rank posthumously.

“Hours before the start of the popular tribute to our 32 heroes who fell in the line of duty in the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, it has been decided, as a worthy and well-deserved tribute, that all of them be promoted to military rank, posthumously,” stated the statement from the Government of the island.

The information does not detail the grades to which each one will be promoted, nor if a specific ceremony will be held for this.

The Cuban Executive confirmed the death of the “combatants” one day after the United States attack on Venezuela. As he noted at the time, they “fell after fierce resistance in direct combat against the attackers or as a result of the bombings.”

The island’s government stated that these men were in Venezuela under agreements with the authorities of the South American country, although it had not previously publicly confirmed their presence and some officials had even denied that there were military personnel from the island in Venezuelan territory, contrary to reports from analysts and independent media.

The arrival of the remains of the 32 soldiers is scheduled for this Thursday, when a posthumous tribute will be paid to them and they will be displayed at the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar), a place to which the population will have access.

The next day, a rally will take place at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune, in front of the United States Embassy, after which a march will take place.
