The privileges in the new Court dominated the front pages of the newspapers in recent weeks, after it was revealed that the ministers were going to have million-dollar armored trucks for their transfers.
The matter reached President Claudia Sheinbaum in the morning, who highlighted the salaries and other luxuries that the ministers had before the judicial election.
Hugo Aguilar came to Court through the ballot boxes. He received the most votes in the election of ministers, which is why he also won the presidency.
During the event to commemorate the Constitution, Aguilar assured that the changes in the Judiciary do not mean setbacks.
Hugo Aguilar justifies himself
Hours after the video became a trend, Hugo Aguilar said that the incident “has spread with messages unrelated to reality.”
The minister confirmed that one of the people who cleaned his shoes was Amanda Pérez, director of Social Communication.
”My colleague, director of Social Communication, spilled coffee and cream. We didn’t realize that it had splashed on my shoe and when she realized, she tried to resolve the situation,” he said.
”This took me by surprise and it is the moment that is now spreading. To Amanda Pérez, I appreciate your gesture. As soon as I realized I asked him not to continue. Even so, I offer you an apology and I reiterate my respect,” he added.
Hugo Aguilar said that the event does not represent the institutional actions of the SCJN “nor the way in which I conduct my public and private performance.”
”It is necessary to say: There have not been nor will there be attitudes or feelings of superiority or arrogance in me,” he said.
Politicians react to video
Rubén Moreira, leader of the PRI in the Chamber of Deputies, said that the video shows the ”arrogance” of Hugo Aguilar.
”In the image, everything they said they hated. Now, to justify, they continue with pretexts and speeches that invoke the past,” he said.
Moreira also pointed out that if it were any of the ministers of the last Court, the members of Morena “would be screaming.”
”They are fascists. “We have a Court with pretensions of aristocracy,” he added.
Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of Grupo Salinas, showed himself on social networks cleaning his own shoes and joined the criticism.
”It’s as easy as anyone to do it yourself, but it’s clear to me that small men like to feel big with their excesses,” he said.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, from Morena, used his networks to respond to the criticism, while Xóchilt Gálvez, former presidential candidate, condemned Aguilar’s actions.
No minister who boasts of having fought for people’s rights and combating discrimination against women can allow two of his collaborators to bend down to clean his shoes, while he looks at them from above.
