The representative of CE Libre also proposes carrying out substance analysis, as is already done at festivals and mass events. For example, in Colombia, people can voluntarily give a sample of the substance to find out what it is really composed of.
“A dose of cocaine can have 10% cocaine and 90% other substances that are much more harmful and dangerous to health,” observes Contró.
It also raises the adaptation of safe consumption spaces, for example in the use of marijuana and cannabis derivatives.
Attention to sexual and gender diversity
The Colibrí Centers also have an area dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ people, as well as their families.
Luis Javier Soriano, in charge of this space at Utopia Meyehualco, says that although the most traditional families still have difficulty accepting the sexual orientation of the youngest, the greatest conflict occurs in cases where the person identifies with a gender. different from that assigned at birth.
“The biggest problem for them (fathers and mothers) is: ‘my daughter identifies as a boy’ or ‘my son identifies as a girl’, gender identity, there is greater resistance,” he warns.
“It is normal for people to come with anger, sadness, first you have to provide containment; then raise awareness. If your daughter or son who is in primary or secondary school suffers violence because he or she identifies as a girl or boy, comes home where he or she should have a support network and does not have one because there is rejection, then how do you feel? There is no safe place.”
From this Colibrí Center, Luis works in individual sessions and with families so that different gender identities and sexual orientations can be known and accepted, in addition to facilitating information and access to contraceptive methods.
Other services at the center include free and confidential testing for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis; In positive cases, the person is referred to the Condesa Clinic to receive specialized care.
