It is likely that there were not a few Cubans, of the residents in the west of the country, who on waking up yesterday, Saturday, commented something like “Did you see how cold it was last night?”
And it was not a simple appreciation problem. The Institute of Meteorology announced that early Saturday morning was “remarkably cold in the interior of the western region.”
So much so that the thermometers marked below 10 degrees Celsius (°C) in six stations, located in Mayabeque and Matanzas.
It happens that this Island and its adjacent seas are under the influence of high migratory continental pressures that impose a mass of dry and cold air over the national territory. And the combination of this air mass with little cloudiness and weak or calm winds caused temperatures to drop, the meteorologists explained.
Of the total of 68 meteorological stations in the country, 43 registered values below 15 °C. As usual, the Bainoa station, Mayabeque, took the cake with 7.9 ºC, followed by Unión de Reyes with 8.4 °C, and Indio Hatuey with 8.8 °C, both in Matanzas.
Well, it seems that at least at dawn and these days, blankets and bedspreads will stop sleeping the eternal sleep of closets and shop windows.
