Coffee growers from 50 VRAEM associations will participate in Ficafé Ayacucho 2022

A total of 50 small coffee associations and cooperatives in the of the 100 formed in the 17 districts that grow this grain throughout the valley, will participate in the which will take place from October 28 to 31, in the city of Ayacucho.

Feliciano Rimachi Obando, president of the Technical Table for Coffee in Vraem, reported that coffee growers in this area of Peru have been cultivating a coffee bean suitable for sale at competitive prices, improving their income and quality of life.

We have learned that special coffees are much more profitable, because they are better valued in the market, more than 30 soles per kilo, compared to the 8 soles that they are paying for regular coffee.Rimachi noted.

He reported that throughout the Vraem, the producers of the 17 coffee districts have organized themselves into more than 100 small associations and cooperatives, and that half of them will participate in the largest coffee event in the country: FICAFÉ Ayacucho-Vraem 2022.

He stated that throughout these years, coffee producers have learned that coffee trees grown at altitudes above 1,600 meters above sea level, in addition to having better body, shape and flavor, are less prone to pests and diseases, including the devastating rust.

The president of the Vraem Coffee Technical Board also commented that, to add value to their crops, the producers have their respective cafeterias where they offer a variety of products based on this grain, such as: frappuccinos, mocaccino, desserts, among others

12 years ago I started with this idea, near a police station, in my town of Pichari, and today it has been replicated in the 17 districts of the Vraem. And our children, in some cases, are already in the same city of Ayacucho with their respective businesses. In Huamanga there are more than 30 coffee shops”, he indicated.

With the indicated movements, Peru could rival Colombia as a Latin American coffee exporting power. (Photo: Pexels)
