Coercion from one year in prison to six in the Iguana case

The Investigating Judge JimaniPaco Terrero Pérez, imposed coercive measures of one year of preventive prison for six of those involved in the iguana casefor smuggling of immigrants, and declared the case complex.

In a press release, the Public Ministry details that the accused Roberto Méndez Pérez, control coordinator at the Customs border post in Jimani, and the inspector of that dependency Johan Rosario Castillo, as well as Quelinton Eduardo Vólquez Guzmán, Delson Manuel Medina Díaz and Juan Mateo Feliciano (Yefo) must serve a year in prison in the Neyba prison. While Dominga Guzmán, mother of one of the defendants, will have to appear periodically before the Public Ministry.

In the coercion hearings, the Public Ministry was represented by prosecutor Belkis Ulloa and Wendy González, attorney general of the Barahona Regional Attorney’s Office. Also by the prosecutor Aleika Almonte, of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office Against Illicit Trafficking of Migrants and human trafficking (PETT), and Alexis Piña and Yoneivy González, from the Office of the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca).

Operation Iguana involved nine simultaneous raids in municipalities of the Independencia, Bahoruco and Pedernales provinces.

During the operation, the Public Ministry arrested those involved in the immigrant smuggling network and seized as evidence seven vehicles, 127 passports of foreign citizens, approximately 116 thousand pesos and 383 dollars, hundreds of documents and a nine-caliber firearm. millimeters.

The dismantling of the network was carried out in the framework of the investigation of the La Placa Case, for which on December 8 of last year Deivi Novas Reyes was arrested in flagrante delicto, who was illegally transporting a Cuban woman with her daughter seven years old on a motorcycle.
