The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported that the strong waves will continue until January 1 of next year, according to data from the Hydrography Directorate of the Navy. In addition, the closure of 81 ports in the country was reported.
As is known, the anomalous waves on the northern coast of Peru caused this Friday the flooding of streets in some towns and damage to dozens of boats in the regions of Piura and Tumbes.
“In response to notice No. 81 of the @DHN_peru regarding the continuity of the anomalous wave until 01/01/2025, The number of ports closed on the northern and central coast increased to 81, according to what was reported by the Navy”, COEN reported on its social networks.
According to special notice 81, on the northern coast (from Tumbes to Salaverry) moderate waves from the northwest persist and will increase to strong in the early hours of Saturday the 28th, and It will decrease to moderate on the afternoon of Sunday the 29th and will decrease to light on the morning of Monday, December 30.
It was specified that on the central coast (south of Salaverry to San Juan de Marcona) light waves persist with intermittent moderate waves from the northwest, will increase to strong on the morning of Saturday the 28th, It will decrease to moderate on the morning of Sunday the 29th and will decrease to light around noon on Monday, December 30.
