Five people died in traffic accidents, 39 people were affected and 28 accidents were recorded in the second phase of the Awareness for Life Christmas and New Year 2024-2025 operation, which began yesterday Monday at noon, the Emergency Operations Center reported this Tuesday. (COE).
The dead are Carmen Ramona Ramírez, Miguel Ángel Cruz, Manuel Enrique Reyes and María Olguina Santana who died in a traffic accident on the Sánchez highway, in the Baní-Azua section, near the Ocoa intersection.
Geurry del Homme also died in a traffic accident on a motorcycle in the Valverde Mao Olympic Village, outside of the road safety operation, according to the considerations provided by the director of the COE, Dr. Juan Manuel Méndez García.

The provinces with the most reported emergencies are Santo Domingo, National District, Peravia, La Romana and San Cristóbal.
The COE reported that in the second part of the operation 39 people have been intoxicated by alcohol, but so far no affected minors have been reported.
Another 14 people were taken to health centers for food poisoning.
In the second part of the operation, 5,769 people have received assistance, including 5,383 roads on the streets and highways of the country and 386 people were treated in health centers.
It was reported that in the second part of the operation, 535 drivers have been sanctioned for violating the red light of the traffic lights; 138 for speeding; 360 for traveling without a seat belt; 139 for talking on the cell phone and 120 heavy vehicles were detained for traveling without permission.
