The Dominican Confederation of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Codopyme) demanded that the Dominican government implement urgent measures that strengthen the competitiveness and formalization of the MSME sector, fundamental to the national economy.
He recalled that according to the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), MSMEs represent 98.4% of the companies registered in the country, adding 243,757 businesses. However, only 14.8% are formally registered, while 85.2% operate in informality, generating more than 2 million jobs.
In a press release the institution suggested a set of measures to address the situation:
Tax simplification: rEVISION OF THE TAX SYSTEM TO REMOVE HEADS AND ALLOW THE PAYMENT OF TAXES BY CREDIT CARD OR A MICRO -ENTREPRESSES MONOTRUPT.
Facilitation of labor procedures: Digitization of processes in the Ministry of Labor and approval of a labor code with a balanced unemployment that does not compromise the financial sustainability of small businesses.
Accessible financing through Promipyme: Expansion of funds for preferential loans, prioritizing the modernization of industrial workshops.
Strengthening government purchases: Ensure that MSMEs are the main beneficiaries of public purchases through the application of Decree 31-22 in all institutions.
Support for digitalization and modernization: Creation of a special fund to facilitate access to technology, electronic commerce and training, as well as tax incentives.
Access to affordable and stable energy: Search for fair electrical rates and improvement in the supply to increase the productivity of the sector.
The organization emphasized that these measures are essential to reduce informality.
