In a 3-2 majority vote, the Codicen approved lThe new teacher training plans for teachers of Primary Education, Early Childhood, Teachers and Technical teachers as well as Social Educator.
These new plans will allow an increase in training hours with the objective that teacher training be declared a university degree by the Ministry of Education and Culture, something that was provided for in the Law of Urgent Consideration, promulgated in 2020.
These new plans will include four routes that teachers will have to take. One is the path of Equivalent Training for Educators that “pPromotes training in the competencies that give identity to the profession of education, for example: pedagogical theories, applied educational research, integral human development, education and its transformations in history“.
Another route will be Specific Training for Educators which, according to the ANEP, “contributes to the development of the competencies of the graduation profile linked to the knowledge of disciplinary knowledge, for example: Mathematics, Spanish Language, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and art
In turn, there is the path of Diverse Language Training for Educators which “serves the needs of the new literacies mediated by different languages: scientific, artistic, digital. For example, multimedia technologies, computational thinking and English”.
Finally, the path of F appearsTraining in Didactics Pre-professional Practice for Educatorswhich is a “formative space that attends from the disciplines to the learning and teaching processes, as well as the institutional dimensions that are associated with the educational task”.
According to the CODICEN, the new plans will generate “higher workload aimed at strengthening the training process, going on to have 5,550 total hours distributed over four years of study“, “incorporation of new spaces linked to technologies and multimodality”, “training for educational inclusion”, “strengthening of training in general culture and “structured training from a competency paradigm and based on permanent learning“.
The new plans will take effect in March 2023 and the Council has until February 28 to present the study programs included in these plans.
