With the premiere of the choreography You, man of God (hidden, scared, lost)at the Eddy Suñol Theater in Holguín, the Codanza Contemporary Dance Company celebrates its 30th anniversary as part of the actions to commemorate the date next September.
The piece by renowned Holguin dancer and choreographer George Céspedes, currently in charge of the company Los Hijos del Director, starts from an existential theme to represent a critique of society and people as generators of conflict, requires a report of the Cuban News Agency.
Created with the music of Alexis de la O, the assembly of the piece, of great physical and emotional charge, was initially conceived for experienced dancers, although for the occasion young dancers assumed the staging, specifies Maricel Godoy, director of Codedance.
After two years without face-to-face activity, Godoy pointed out that the performers gradually managed to take the pulse of the choreography of the renowned creator, author of the award-winning choreographies Mambo 3XXI Y Carmina Buranaexecuted both by his company and by Danza Contemporánea de Cuba.
In this work “the movements must be inhabited and not pretty so that the choreographer’s message reaches the viewer,” said the director of Codanza, and specified that this piece is expected to be part of the activities of the Gibara International Film Festivalnext August.
The upcoming presentations of the company from Holguin will be in September, at the usual Codanza North Atlantic Dance Competition and Grand Prix Vladimir Malakhovafter two years of inactivity due to Covid-19.
Codanza was founded on September 25, 1992 in Holguín and is considered one of the best contemporary dance companies in the country, with presentations in several Cuban provinces and international tours in Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
