Derek Gomez pitched six solid scoreless innings as Coclé defeated Los Santos by a 7-run shutout to 0 in the National Youth Baseball Championship.
The Coclesanos scored two in the first episode, one in the second, one more in the seventh and three in the ninth inning to complete their ninth win of the season with only one loss, staying in first place in the standings.
Roderick Lezcano went 2-5 with two RBIs to be the best bat for the Coclesanos, while Luis Escudero went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored; Tomas Sarmiento is 5-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The winning pitcher, Derek Gómez, worked six innings where he only allowed three hits, fanned out four and issued three walks, was relieved by Emanuel Vargas who threw three innings without being hit, struck out four and issued one walk .
The losing pitcher was Lucas Cedeño.
In other games played last night in the 2023 National Youth Championship, the Panama Metro team woke up the offense and took an important victory over Occidente, after scoring 9 runs in the top of the tenth inning and breaking a two-way tie with Occidente, enough to draw the match 11-2.
And in what we can call a night of whitewashing, Coclé defeated Los Santos 7 runs to 0, Herrera beat Darién 6-0 and Chiriquí beat Colón 5-0. And in one last result, Veraguas surprised the Potros de Panamá Este, the national champions, by beating them 13 runs to 7.
While Bocas del Toro surpassed Panama Oeste 9 races for 4.
