Coalition for Social Security demands comprehensive audit and transparency in SENASA case

Santo Domingo.– The Coalition for Decent Social Security demanded this Friday a comprehensive audit of the National Health Insurance (SENASA) and the entities linked to the Dominican Social Security System, with the objective of guaranteeing transparency, accountability and protection of citizens’ rights.

In an official statement, the organization explained that this request is made before the evidence of irregularities and financial deterioration in SENASA, reflected in the preliminary financial statements updated to 2024, which show a net loss of RD$ 8,331 millionto which are added recognized expenses from previous years for RD$ 9,164 milliongenerating a negative accumulated equity of -RD$ 14,538 million.

The Coalition indicated that the judicial file of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic reveals that SENASA’s difficulties between 2020 and 2025 are not due to the expansion of membership in the Subsidized Regime, but to specific institutional practices, including weaknesses in the supervision of control bodies and resource management.

Among the highlights are: the need to strengthen the state health stewardship, the privatization of services and resources, and the participation of private health risk managers (ARS).

The Coalition emphasized that these conditions have affected the protection of members’ fundamental rights, including access to timely and quality health services.

The statement highlights the importance of justice and comprehensive reparation actions for those affected and calls on citizens and social organizations to remain vigilant against any attempt to limit transparency or maintain practices that harm users of the system.

The Coalition reaffirmed that its objective is to promote a transformation of the social security system that prioritizes the health, rights and lives of Dominicans, guaranteeing responsible management of public resources and effective supervision of all entities involved.
