Political impact
The two events, widely reported and reported on social networks, unleashed a wave of criticism towards the municipal authorities. Both official accounts and citizen publications pointed to the local administration as an alleged accomplice of the criminal group that operates in the region.
In response, the Morenista governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, asked the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to initiate an investigation against the municipal authorities of Coalcomán for their probable connection with the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG). Through his social networks, the governor condemned the promotion of violence in the state:
In Michoacán we condemn the apology of those who promote violence. Therefore we ask the @FGR thoroughly investigate the municipal authorities of Coalcomán for their probable connection with a criminal group.
