In a letter addressed to the Minister of Labour, Luis Miguel de Campsthe president of the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity, (CNUS), Rafael -Pepe- Abreurequested the intervention of the state body that regulates workers, after the creation of a new union in the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Coraasan), which he opposes.
Last Thursday, through an assembly held at the facilities of the Dominican College of Journalists in this city of Santiago, a new union of employees of Coraasan and was appointed sutracoraasan (United Union of Workers of Coraasan)
In the letter, to which Diario Libre had access, Abreu accuses the management of Coraasan of the creation of the new union, of which he says that he seeks to ignore the existing one, Sitracoraasan (created in the administration of the late former president Don Antonio Guzmán on July 2, 1978).
“We communicate to you the serious situation that has been created in the Corporation of the Aqueduct and Sewerage of Santiago Coraasanwith the action headed by the general director Ing. Andrés Burgos, have launched an unprecedented action… No one had thought of creating a parallel union…”, the letter says in its content.
Diario Libre made contact with the Communication department of Coraasanand, via telephone, the company’s representative before the media denied that the administration of the state entity had in any way anything to do with the creation of the new union group.
DL also contacted one of the directors of the new union and he indicated that it was decided to create another group to organize the workers, because the new employees were not admitted to the union. Sitracoraasan when they tried to join it.
In a video sent to this medium, the current general secretary of Sitracoraasan, José Eduardo Domínguez, points out that the creation of the union that he describes as parallel, “is a tome of the current general director of Coraasan to disregard the rights acquired for years by this union,” said the union official.
The United Union of workers of the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (sutracoraasan) in last Thursday’s assembly elected Reinaldo Brito as general secretary, who said that they will proceed to take the necessary steps to be recognized before all the country’s trade union centrals.
Brito pointed out, in a press release, that the line of action is the mission of improving the employee representation relationship, proposing improvements in the evaluation of staff performance and achieving improvements in the salary of workers with lower income.
The press release indicates that the Coraasan workers had questioned the past Sitracoraasan election process.
They stated that it was done arbitrarily and denying the participation of new employees.
In addition, they have questioned the participation scheme in which employees had to make financial contributions to an entity that did not assume them as full members.
