Although President Claudia Sheinbaum has attended some of the demands of the Magisterium, the coordinator has decided to continue with her protests.
Even the teachers say they will not attend the next meeting agreed with the Federal President for May 8, said Yenni Pérez, general secretary of Section 22 of the CNTE.
On April 5, the dissident union approved in a national forum the realization of an indefinite strike, but at that time it did not detail the date it would begin.
Through a virtual conference, the CNTE reported that on May 15 the national strike will start from nine in the morning.
The coordinator’s leadership states that it will not yield with its manifestations until the federal government meets all its demands, which include the abrogation of the ISSSTE Law of 2007 and the 2013 educational reform, in addition to returning to the system of pension without arches.
In March, the CNTE also made a series of protests because Sheinbaum sent an initiative to reform the ISSSTE law. The Magisterium argued that this new modification increased the fees that state workers pay their salary to the Institute for social security.
The president accepted a dialogue with the CNTE and withdrew the initiative. Subsequently, he published a decree that freezes some housing credits with enormous interest and the retirement age keeps it without increments, as the union organization also demanded.
However, the CNTE has indicated that these measures do not completely resolve their demands and has called to make the national strike.
