Santo Domingo. – The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) is scheduled to initiate on October 2 the evaluation of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice that could opt for a new period, as well as fill two vacancies, and the applicants to judges and substitutes of the Superior Electoral Court.
The information was offered on Monday the legal consultant of the Executive Power, Antoliano Peralta and Judge Nancy Salcedo, in their capacity as a member and secretary of the Council, after completing this afternoon the second work session of the National Council of the Magistracy, which was headed by Vice President Raquel Peña, on behalf of President Luis Abinader.
Nancy Salcedo said that it is planned that by November 28 the new judges of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Superior Electoral Court could be sworn in, to advance according to the established schedule.
“Many times the schedule will be managed depending on the agendas that the directors have and also depend on the number of people who come to be evaluated, and the evaluation of is 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon,” he said.
He also informed that the modification to Regulation 1-19 was approved, specifically in its article 4, on the decision to conduct or not public interviews with the judges in the process of evaluation, which was proposed in the first session, On July 25.
“These observations were valued and examined carefully. As of tomorrow, the public announcement of the approval of the modified regulation will be made and a deadline will be opened for citizens to take knowledge and make the observations to those reports that will be hung on the website of the National Council of the Magistracy,” said magistrate Salcedo.
On his side Antoliano Peralta said that all other council members were present at the meeting on Monday.
Currently, there are two vacancies in the First Chamber of the Supreme Court, and three judges whose period has concluded and must be evaluated. Since 2019, these magistrates have sent annual performance reports that are available on the CNM web portal, which will allow any citizen to consult and comment on it.
