The National Council of Justice (CNJ) inaugurated today (8) the National Women’s Ombudsman. The measure will make available to citizens a space to receive complaints and complaints about the processing of legal proceedings that deal with violence against women.
The ombudsman will be responsible for receiving and forwarding complaints and complaints to the competent authorities, providing information on judicial procedures, in addition to providing guidance to women victims of violence.
Contact with the ombudsman can be done in person, at the CNJ headquarters, in Brasília, or through an electronic form. Due to the restrictions caused by the covid-19 pandemic, the service will be carried out by the council website.
In the assessment of the national women’s ombudsman, Tânia Reckziegel, the ombudsman plays an important role as a mechanism for listening and welcoming situations of violation of women’s rights.
“It is important that women have a place where they can go, ask questions, get information, ask for clarification and be helped on this journey. It is a measure that allows greater access to justice,” he said.
The president of the CNJ, Minister Luiz Fux, said that one of the axes of the council’s work is the defense of women’s fundamental rights.
“The inauguration of a physical space for the National Women’s Ombudsman’s Office signifies our perception that public policies cannot be reduced to mere academic ramblings of a normative nature. We have to act”, commented Fux.
